Funny, how something as simple as peanut brittle can be a labor of love. That’s what it is for us, and apparently Fess Parker too!
Most of us remember Fess Parker as the humble but courageous Daniel Boone who was personified by Walt Disney in the late 60’s and early 70’s. But we never realized, that like Betty, Fess had an insatiable sweet tooth for peanut brittle. In fact, Fess was a peanut brittle connoisseur.
We remember when we were first approached by the Wine Country Hotel & Spa Resort in Los Olivos, California. They were looking for a simple way of saying thank you to their patrons and hotel guests, but unlike the typical chocolate that you frequently find on your hotel pillow, they were looking for something original. As Fess put it, "we don’t want anything ordinary, we want something extraordinary", and because Fess loved peanut brittle, he embarked on a search for a “candy maker extraordinaire,” a search that eventually led him to Betty. After all, who better to compliment Fess’ award winning wines, than Betty’s award winning brittle?
That simple phone call would eventually create a competition among five premier candy makers, and that competition would later prove Betty, and her brittle, the finest.
Betty was commissioned by the Wine Country Hotel & Spa Resort in Los Olivos, CA. to provide regular shipments of her peanut brittle. The late Fess Parker, famed actor, originally owned the resort. Peanut brittle was Mr. Parker's favorite candy, so his heirs, who now manage the resort, honor him by putting a little gift bag of homemade peanut brittle on each guest's pillow wishing them sweet dreams. It's a nice tribute to Mr. Parker and big business for Betty's Brittle.
And so, today, every patron and guest of the Fess Parker Winery, Hotel and Spa, in Los Olivos, California, receives a complimentary gift of Betty’s Brittle as a way of saying thanks for their stay, and gets to enjoy the same simple treat that Fess enjoyed.
Fess isn’t with us anymore, but his love for peanut brittle lingers, and that love can become your love too.
